The tactical battles are excellent, but what I really liked is that the strategic side is just as good. Managing the train, your people, resources, where you go next etc all actually matters, and the two sides of the game work really well together. The Last Train Home is a pretty good game, but ultimately I decided I didn't want to put too much time into it. There's no particular reason why other than, I'd prefer a game like this to be played in rounds much like X-Com or Jagged Alliance not a RTS. This is a game where you can pause it (tactical mode) and plan your strategy but that only takes you so far before things play out in what ever way the game decides.…

The idea is novel - first time I come across a plot like this. You spend a good deal of your time sending out squads to collect resources on the map (no RTS), and constructing upgrades to your train.
