About the game

Centuries have passed since the events of RefleX and mankind has once again attained civilization. Now, ancient technology born of a twisted mind sets in motion a chain of events designed to bring divine retribution down upon mankind. The key to bring forth the annihilation is KAMUI, a fighter craft based on ‘Xaffiquel Theory” brain fusion technology. This twin-tined instrument of mankind's destruction carries a terrible secret that ironically will prove to be mankind’s only hope for salvation.

I first came across this game in 1997. Back then, only a free demo was available, and it let you play just the first two stages. Apparently, the full game was later released at Comic Market (Comiket). But I was living in rural Japan at the time, and I didn’t even know how to get to the event. It seems the game eventually made its way into shops, too, but none of the local computer stores carried it. Mail order was…

This is a weak no recommend. Kamui is a vertically scrolling shooter that places enemies at two levels. One level is the same that the player ship is flying at and can target with normal guns and a focused bullet absorbing "lightning" attack if the special attack weapon is held down. The other level is below the player's ships normal weapons but can be targeted by tapping the special "lightning" attack. However, any…
