Needs the Battle FPS fix by Greger in the Steam Guides to make the combat bearable, otherwise it looks jittery and too slow. The initial premise and roughly the first 3rd of the story was very intriguing since classes were now tied to actual characters but I strongly disliked the latter half about Cecil's backstory. It's just a very solid entry. Exactly what you expect. The graphics have a nice charm to them, and the 3D models can be very expressive during the voiced cutscenes. Combat still has that sense of teamwork and strategy that every RPG needs to keep from getting repetitive. The story is solid even if it's not the strongest in the series. Not worth your money in 2026. You'd be better off buying the Pixel Remaster. Game runs at 15 FPS in battles. A mod is absolutely mandatory if you don't want to spend 1 hour in a fight with basic trash mobs.
