One of my absolute comfort games. I played this to death when I was young even thoug my parent's PC could barely manage it. It's clunky of course being an 20 year old game and you notice the limitations of the time quite glaringly. So maybe without nostalgia it is not worth getting into. But with the bonus of fond memories it holds up quite well.

probably the failures are a product of it's time, but certain things are not forgivable. rpg elements REQUIRE time to STOP when in the character menus. if you do not have the game pause when in these menus, it becomes impossible to play that element of the game. the game doesn't even pause the rts elements when you are talking with an npc. so while you are getting details about a quest, you are getting blaring horns…
