In a time of AI everything, this game was a real breath of fresh air. You can FEEL how hand made this game is. By a team of people who believed in and were in love with this project. The visuals on this game are inspired and beautiful. South of Midnight would probably be easier to pitch to friends if it was a 8 hours TV series split into 40minute to 1hour chunks. Because despite being one of the most interesting, immersive worlds of southern gothic I've seen in years, it's kind of a dogwater game. Biting the bullet, the gameplay is fine. Not recommended
I wouldn't recommend this game to others. The art direction is amazing, plus the setting alone is worthy of a deep dive, but I found myself dreading playing the actual game. Its just boring over all, from the combat, to the boss battles, to the exploration. I ended up just watching the last bit of the game on youtube because I could skip everything but the cutscenes. Wish I could get a refund.
