I found this game when looking for a game to play with my kids. And thy love it works with xbox 360 controller and my own custom controller really well. Pros of game. 1) Any controller with 2 sticks works so far as I can tell. 2) My 3 year old can play the game 3) My 3 year old can play with my 8 year old. Unfortunately, the game doesn't have enough polish to be fun imo. Graphics and UX are a hard to understand, only four xbox controllers work at the same time (most likely because the game falls back to XInput instead of DINput for those) and I don't like the sound design at all.
