So far about a half hour into the game I read mixed reviews about the game. So far I am enjoying it feels more like a castlevania (metroidvania / igavania ) than a Metroid style game like the first one. I enjoy that the combat is more melee based. So far so good. I think it’s cool when a sequel isn’t a carbon copy of the predecessor.

Actually fantastic game. I was already a fan of the first one, which was a very Metroid-inspired game with a few cool and unique abilities, but this one takes the gameplay in a really unique direction that I ended up enjoying even more. I have to say, this game is a huge downgrade from the first. The first Axiom Verge might be one of my top 5 favorite games, but this doesn't even come close. I really wanted to enjoy it, but this game barely has anything in common with the first. I wished they hadn't changed the mechanics, and the entire theme of the game.
